PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Baptist Rural Life Ministries (see their Facebook page here) is a non-profit agriculture-based program designed to meet the physical and spiritual needs of mountain farmers in the Caribbean Basin. This work has grown out of a passion to reach the Chorti people of Honduras (and Chorti in other countries) with the good news of Christ. The project began in 2004 and has grown tremendously over the years. The project seeks to meet physical needs primarily through teaching a variety of farming technologies designed to help small, sustenance farmers living in mountainous regions of the world. A key element is the S.A.L.T. program (Sloping Agricultural Land Technology) developed by Harold Watson. Another key element has been building a safe stove that will vent combustion products away from their huts. Presently combustion products are seeping into their homes and causing a variety of health issues for their children as well as the family. All parts of the project are integrated with an evangelistic effort designed to bring the participants to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through a strategy of chronological Bible storying.
